Ask for scientific advice accessibility statement

This accessibility statement explains how accessible this service is, what to do if you have difficulty using it, and how to report accessibility problems with the service.

This statement only applies to the Ask for scientific advice service, available at getscientificadvice.mhra.gov.uk. This service is part of the wider GOV.UK website. There is a separate accessibility statement for the main GOV.UK website (opens in a new tab).

This website is run by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels, and fonts
  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We plan to:

  • Find out if we can allow users to save progress so the form doesn’t need to be completed in one session
  • Find opportunities to reduce the length and information required by users to complete this form
  • Monitor the usage of this form to see where users drop out so we can identify potential issues

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared and reviewed on 23 January 2025.

How we test this website

We test this website using automated and manual accessibility tools. Both types of testing are run against the W3C WAI Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 (opens in a new tab)

For manual testing, we use the WAVE Chrome browser extension and NVDA screen reader to check that the web pages are compliant with the guidelines. Our testers manually navigate around the pages and check that content is presented in a logical order.

For automated testing, we integrated Pa11y to carry out the checks.
